Cargo Is Back!!

Little Cargo is back to finish her training!! She will be with me for the next 2 weeks to weeks to accomplish the advanced obedience. She has been very excited to be back & see all her friends but it was straight to business when she got here. Her mom & dad have done a great job with her Basic Obedience but she definitely knows when that leash comes off it's a free for all and she is out of control. Stay tuned for Cargo's progress over the next two weeks as she learn her off leash work!

I was hoping to ease back into work but that's just not been the case!! It's great problem to have and I am so happy to see my clients again. I have many new trainees! Miss Laina finished up her 3 week Advanced Obedience and she made me very proud!! She did absolutely excellent & I hope her mom is enjoying her much more now that she has the tools & techniques to help her follow through. I also finished with long time and repeat client on their new addition Ellie, a 4month old Great Dane pup who also completed the Advanced Obedience. We still have some work to accomplish with her in our follow up lessons but she has made great progress back home with her family.

I have also just finished up with Amos - a 2 year old American Staffordshire Terrier who needed some Basic Obedience and a little work learning to socialize with a little less exuberance. He spent one week & did very well. He definitely likes to chose which command he does when given a specific command but that just won't cut it :o) He is now back home with his mom, dad & big sister & former trainee, Mesa. He is definitely giving them a challenge but they will stay consistent and follow through. We'll have a follow up lesson the next time they are back in Georgia too!

I have a new trainee this past week that has joined us all the way from Pensacola, FL. He is an 8month old English Bulldog pup named Patton! He will be with me for two weeks. He has completed week one of his training with the Basic Obedience. In true Bulldog fashion he

is quite stubborn but incredibly smart. He does get easily worn out by our training work outs though. He is only able to go about 10 minutes and then he's ready to fall asleep. He was holding his sit command while I was trying to distract him out of the command and he was head bobbing and lightly swaying trying to hold his sit. Poor little guy. He is a super playful guy and has made lots of friends. He has made himself quite at home always asking if he can get up on the couch for his very frequent naps.

He still has some work to accomplish this next week so more updates to come on Patton!

I am back after the fastest maternity leave ever. I have a new trainee to tell you guys about!!

Meet Laina!

She is an absolute doll. She is here for my Advanced Obedience. She has been here a week and is doing very well. She definitely has a mind of her own but what girl doesn't ;o) She has completed, with flying colors, the basic, on leash part of the training so we started the off leash this morning. She had a rough time with it in our first lesson but had a complete break-through in our afternoon lesson and then looked like an old pro this evening. We'll work a bit tomorrow but I'll most likely work on her place command since we're expected to get rain. She has made TONS of friends. She is definitely a social butterfly and doesn't take no for an answer when it comes to playing. I am super pleased with he progress up to this point & look forward to the next 2 weeks! Nadine Update :o)

Miss Nadine is coming right along. She's learned all the Basic Obedience commands - heel with auto-sit, sit (stays) down at my side, down(stays), & come with auto-sit. Now it's just polishing the commands, adding some distractions and teaching her to hold her commands for some time. This is where she is having the biggest issues. She is too sweet for words & wants to be right by my side....all the time. She'll do the command, I'll walk away, to try to return to her after a short period of time & by then she's already ran to my side. We're working through it. She has make great friends and plays super well with everyone. I think the pollen is bothering her eyes as much as mine today though. :o( She is acting fine, she just rubs them every once in a while & they look a little watery than normal. We'll see how she is tomorrow. So her progress so far has been okay; I'd give her a B. We'll see how her next few days go with the added distractions & holding her commands. Happy Friday!!

Little Max is nearing the end of his stay with me. He's definitely keeping me on my toes & I find myself always having to be one step ahead of him. Everyday it seems he has a new trick up his sleeve. He will also be returning in the near future for some boarding so that will be a great opportunity for me to continue keeping him in shape. His morning workouts always seem to be the best because he knows food is to follow.....haha, stinker. We have a field trip to Petsmart planned today (pending truck repairs) & a park visit this weekend. He has started *trying* to play the catch me if you can game again lately so we need to get to the bottom of that....which I thought we were....That's Max for ya ;o)

This is Sadie! She came directly from Ayers Pampered Pets; a golden-doodle breeder here in the Atlanta area. She is about 5months old & will be going to a family in Illinois. She will be with me for the next month getting Basic Obedience training, potty training & a few other basic skills for being integrated into her new home with her new family! She is a very sweet, curious girl. She loves the other dogs & has been extremely interested in the cats. She had a good first night, learning how to sleep in her crate & learning the new potty routine. More to come on Sadie's progress!

Hank is headed home sweet home to Nashville. He finished his next level of training, Intermediate Obedience. After a rough start of getting him polished back up and on track Hank completed the Intermediate Obedience with flying colors. He is a sweet boy & he'll be back in September to complete the Advanced Obedience!! Can't wait to see him again!

Well I've been trying to update all weekend with lots of pictures but every time I hit "Publish" I get an "Error. Try again later" notice. So I'm attempting to just update so everyone will know what's been going on with their babies!

Hank:
Hank is back from Nashville to continue with his training. He has needed a bit of brushing up over his first week here. He has been super excited to see his old friends & make new ones but he hasn't been too jazzed up to get down to business. He's playing his old "I'm too cute to listen" card. He's trying to be too submissive & not want to actually work. He's coming along & being reminded slowly ;o) The weekend was too nice not to play in the water hose so he & his friends enjoyed getting soaked & rolling in the grass!

Wilson:
Mr. Wilson is coming along nicely. He has definitely come out of his shell & is playing great with everyone now! He too has a love affair with the water hose & enjoyed being soaked this weekend. We're still working on his random setting off at strangers. His food aggression has come a long way but he still is very tense & has a lot of anxiety about meal time. I have introduced a few new feeding routines that have seemed to alleviate some of that anxiety & hopefully with time & consistency he will loose all that anxiety about eating. Hopefully Wilson only has one more week & then he gets to see his family again!!

Spy-girl:
My little snuggle bug, Spy-girl is wonderful. He is doing as well as can be expected for her age. She is socialized daily with new people & things. Her potty training is coming along great. She is starting to show interest in putting EVERYTHING in her mouth so that's the topic of the week we are working on with her. I have imprinted her on most of her obedience commands & she is picking up on things very quickly. She's a great little girl!

Biskit:
Miss Biskit is here for my Advanced Obedience training. She was very nervous of the crew when she first arrived over a week ago but she is socializing great now! She has finished all her Basic Obedience commands - heel with an auto-sit, sit(stays), down(stays), come with auto-sit, place, & her release command. She is doing very well on doing these commands in a variations of difficulty. I have started her off leash work & have picked up on her socializing with strangers. She is still very nervous around new people but learning to let her guard down :o) More to come on Biskit's off leash progress & hopefully pictures!!

Jack:
Ah, Little Jack. He is making me work for it for sure. He has been going through a stubborn streak that I'd like to see come to an end soon. He does excellent while on the leash but is testing the limits fully when the leash comes off. This next week we will be focusing on his off leash & working more in public places. He should enjoy the field trips. Now for potty training - - - 3 steps forward 2 jumps back.

Last But Not Least

The last of my updates on new trainees is little Jack! Jack is a 4 month old Alaskan Malamute-mix that was flown all the way from Las Vegas for Advanced Obedience! He will be with me until mid April for his training. We have been working on his potty training, socializing, food & toy possessiveness & of course his obedience over the past week. He is doing very well but definitely has an agenda of his own. He loves playing with the other puppies. He is sharp as a tack & maybe too smart for his own good. More on little Jack as his training evolves!

Hansel's Back!

Hansel, the 8 month old Rottweiler pup is back for his continued training. He completed the Basic Obedience when he was 4 months old & is now back to move ahead with the Advanced work. He has been here about 2 weeks & tomorrow is his big day to show off everything he's learned. He was a very stubborn boy & has a mind of his own. This is Wilson! He is a 2 year old Mini-Australian Shepherd that will be completing the Advanced Obedience as well as working on some quirky food aggression problems. He has only been here 1 night & is still getting acquainted with the gang & learning the routine. I have only worked on his manners on the leash & his sit-stay for now. I would like him to relax & settle in a bit more before we move ahead. He is a super sweet boy that loves to learn & is always looking for the next "job". This is Brisco. He is a young pitt-mix that was recently rescued by the Palm family! He is a very sweet boy but is full of sass & energy. He will be learning some Basic Obedience for the next week & hopefully coming back soon for more training! His favorite part of the day is playtime. Sweet girl Sophie joined her family this week after finishing the Intermediate Obedience training. She did very well learning that strangers aren't all bad & learning to not be such a crazy girl. She came out of her shell completely & made so many new friends! My little Jasper has been quite the super star during this past 2 weeks of training. He is incredibly smart & picking up very quickly. I've been able to move a little faster than I normally would with him and have already been able to have him off leash with moderately heavy distractions. He is still a little pushy when new people are around so we'll really be working on him holding his commands better & continuing to remain calm when greeting people. He's made lots of 4-legged friends but he enjoys being with the 2 legged kind the most :o) He is definitely a people-dog. Here's a little bit of what Jasper has been working on!

The Fonz is Home

Mr. Fonzi had his go home lesson today! I am happy to say he has made a complete 180 degree change from the crazy, dog aggressive (acting), bully that showed up 3 weeks ago. He successfully completed my Advanced Obedience (on & off leash) with the heaviest of distractions. I will be checking in with him & his family next week to see how they are keeping up with the new rules!

This sweet girl is Sophie! She is a Shar-Pei/Labrador mix. She has been here for my Intermediate Obedience program as well as working on her social skills with people. She has been here for a week & started off with a band & was doing great but towards the end of the week she put the brakes on & decided that is was time to start the stubbornness. She has successfully completed heeling nicely on my left side & sitting when we stop, her sit stays, come, place & sit in motion command. She is still not consistently doing her down commands which can be common given it's a submissive position to put her into. She is loving playing with her new friends and has done super meeting new people on our daily outtings! We should have started moving into her off leash work but we will be putting that off a few more days to work her through this little bit of stubbornness.

Mr. Fonzi is coming along slowly but surely. He is now socializing with everyone, cats, dogs, people alike like a perfect gentleman. He has learned all his obedience commands & is not staring to perform these commands off the leash around moderately heavy distractions. He is doing well with this but has hit a bit of a "if I don't look at you I don't have to listen to you" sort of attitude.....he sees much more fun things to pay attention to now. So we are working through that as well as advancing his off leash control, after we've addressed that issue. He is making friends & has been such a sweet love. I will be happy for his family to see Fonzi's progress!!

Meet the Fonz!

This is Fonzi. He is a 4 year old Pitt Mix that is here for the Advanced Obedience & behavior modification. He has some dog aggression & being a brat issues towards people that he needs to work through as well as establishing his foundation of obedience. He has almost completed one week of his three+ week course & he is doing very well. He's not as ferocious as he would like for his family to think. In fact he is a little bit of a chicken. He is very smart & has learned almost all the scheduled commands for his first week of training, including: heel with an auto-sit when we stop, sit(stays), down from the side & down(stays), come with an auto-sit, place & his release command. He has supervised on leash time with my gang & has done excellent. He doesn't have much interest in trying to play, he is constantly seeking praise & confirmation he's a good boy. Meet Bo Jackson!

This cutie pie is Bo Jackson. He is an 8 month old Labrador-Mix. He is a super excitable guy that is here to complete the Intermediate Obedience. He is doing very well as learning the commands and has completed almost all of his commands for week one of training - Heel with an auto-sit when we stop, sit(stays), down from the side & down(stays), come with an auto-sit while on a leash & he's had one lesson on the place command. He is doing very well with the lour of the other dogs around, as well as the cats. He is still thinking that all people are for him so we are spending more time working him through that. Maggie's Big Weekend!

This was Maggie's weekend to meet her new family. She, Ty & I made a trip Friday afternoon to Mt. Airy, North Carolina to spend the weekend training her with her new family. We got Maggie acquainted with her new home on Friday evening & then Saturday morning bright & early we headed out for a day of teaching the new family how to have a service dog in public & how to work with Bridget & Maggie together.

[Sidebar: Maggie was trained for Bridget as her seizure detection companion. Bridget is 2 years old & suffers from very bad seizures 7-15 times in one day. Maggie will help detect the seizures before they hit & Bridget's mom can get her to safety so she isn't hurt. As well as being able to be a support for Bridget when she is unstable after having a seizure.]

So, as I was saying bright & early on Saturday morning we headed out for breakfast first & then to the mall.....If she can handle Maggie in a crowded mall at Christmas time, the rest is a piece of cake! Bridget, her mom & Maggie did wonderful. It was a successful training day & I'll be back in a few months to work check in on their progress & see how they are adjusting!

Swayze's Last Days:

Swayze has come to the end of his stay with me. He will be going home tomorrow morning. He has had a very productive stay. He has learned to heel nicely at my left side & sit when we stop, he will hold his sit & down stays, come & sit when called, he is responding much better to the "no" command & of course, made tons of friends!!! All his training has done on a Basic Level, meaning all on leash work so I hope to see him in the future for boarding & more training! Here are the last pictures of Swayze working :o)

Lizzy is home!

Sweet girl is home sweet home! Her family was very excited to see her & she them!!! I'll be checking back in with them in a few weeks to see how they are handling keeping up with her :o) She is going to be a great family dog for them! I can't wait to have more updates on her!

Rapunzel:

Rapunzel is doing very well with her training & her new found structure. She is still quite distracted with things going on around her so she will be staying 3-4 extra days to work through that. She is doing much better with her socialization with the other dogs but always supervised. She has very dominant traits & sometimes is less worried about playing & more worried about trying to make her status known, lol.....not here, she's learning. I'll have more pictures & more update on her distraction proofing as next week unfolds!

Big Boy Gus:

Gus is doing great! He will be going home in the next few days. I am excited for his family to see the new found Gus & his happy go lucky self. He has been a love & I've enjoyed working with him so much. I love the breed & even though he's had his moments of being rotten.....he's a very good, sweet boy. He completed my Advanced Obedience Program. He can obey all the basic obedience commands - heeling, come with a finish, sit-stays, down-stays, place, motion commands and doing them all around heavy distractions & off the leash. He also came with some serious resource guarding issues. This will be an ongoing task to over come with him but he has shown no guarding tendencies in a few weeks. His family will be given certain tasks to work on with him on a daily basis & a new structured routine for him to follow. He has been socialized around small kids & was allowed to be pet if given permission by their parents. He was very accepting of everyone that he's met but of course all sessions were supervised & that too will be a continued task to work on. :o) I can't wait to get him back to his family & get the owner training started!!!

Booger Monster.....aka Rayban!

Meet Rayban! He is a Aussie mix puppy that will be here for my Advanced Obedience Program. He has boarded with me in the past but now he's here for a big dose of reality :o) He is a very sweet, smart boy....maybe a little too smart for his own good. He has been here for about 5 days & has learned his manners of not jumping up or chewing on people, heeling on the leash, sit-stays, & down-stays & he's has started come...which he has no problems with :o) His favorite part of the day is meal time, playtime & nap time :o)..... actually I think those are my favorite parts of the day too, haha.

He has a long road to travel down over the next few weeks so I'll keep you posted on his progress!!

My little Lazy Lizzy is coming to the end of her stay with me :o( She is doing very well & has come a long way in three weeks. She will be leaving the end of this week so on the agenda we will visiting the park a few more times, she needs a Petsmart/Co run & she needs a bit more work on maintaining her place command for more than an hour. Her little light bulb has finally come on & she is following all her commands wonderfully. We have a few more loose ends to tie up and then she's off to see her family! I'm sure they'll be so happy to have her back! Lizzy's best friend while she's been here has been Beasley & Oliver. Stay tuned for Lizzy's last few days of pictures & progress!!

Gus-gus Update

Mr. Gus is doing excellent! He has been socializing with new people. He hasn't had anymore guarding episodes and I have actually been taking things from him on a regular basis......BUT the real test will come when he's back home & his family has to pick up the reins & take charge :o) Gus will be due to go home at the end of this week. I will continue my work with his family making sure they feel comfortable continuing to teach him & work with him. Resource guarding is an ongoing process & the dogs must be continuously worked with to make sure they are staying on point & not falling back on old habits. Gus has made himself quite at home while he's been here & will definitely be missed after this week. We hope to see his handsome face in the future!!

Little Maddie is doing very well but has had a few set backs the last few days. She will be staying a bit longer so I can move her past these few things. Her potty training has been perfect. She is definitely a creature of habit & routine. If her routine changes, she changes. She likes knowing what's expected of her & has no problems following through with her training. She is still trying to be very sneaky with food so I am constantly setting her up for that; little stinker :o) We'll see how the next few days play out for Miss Maddie & hopefully she'll have her homecoming before the end of the week!

Gus' Update

Mr. Gus is coming right along but I think defiance is in the air. He has definitely come out of his shell & is much friskier than he has been the last 3 weeks. With that said, he's wanting to show off a little more & push buttons a little more. He has show his possessive, guarding tendencies but takes to being told "no" with a correction very well & moves right along. He has spent some time around small kids & doesn't have much interest in them either way. Unfortunately, most kids haven't wanted to say hello to him because he of the slobber......it comes with the territory with a panting Spinone :o) But none the less, he's coming along & making progress. He will be hanging out a bit longer to perfect his training & expose him to as much as possible!

As you noticed..... Nowhere in there does Lizzy agenda list training or minding me. Hehehe. She's kind of funny actually. She is super affectionate with me, likes to follow me around, she'll bring me toys & she's always curious about what I'm doing with the other dogs. But when it is time for me to tell her what to do she turns her eyes away from me & goes into her own little world....
It's all part of the process and she is definitely getting better than last week but it's hindering her progress with adding in the harder distractions & venturing out as much as I'd like. Good thing she's so darn cute!!

STELLA

Stella is coming right along! :o) She is still very nervous around new things but she has had many field trip days to PetSmart/Co & Home Depot. She is starting to play with the other dogs but has moments where I can tell by her body language she feels like she needs to strike out. She is corrected immediately before she reacts & then she's back to playing. Her obedience is coming along wonderfully. She is holding her commands with a ton of distractions.....even the cats taunting her & racing through the house like fools. The next few days Stella will get worked around more distractions & go on a few more field trips & hopefully be ready to see her momma on Saturday!

MADDIE:
Maddie is a little super star!! She has done excellent on her potty training! She has started perching herself, front feet on the wall, & just stands until I notice her to take her out. She loves playing with the other small dogs & exploring the backyard....go figure. She is doing excellent off leash & now the test is on as I add harder & harder distractions & we will have fieldtrip days to the park & PetSmart for her to work on her manners when greeting people!!

Lizzy will be here for the next 3 weeks for the Advanced Obedience. She is a very playful, very sweet, happy go lucky kinda girl. She has done very well her first few days & lesson here. She is walking nicely on the leash, heeling at my left side & sitting when we stop. She will hold her sit stays & today we introduced the down at my side. She is a quick learner & is moving along very nicely so far! More to come on Lizzy & her progress!

Diamond Update

Ah.... Miss Diamond has been a handFUL the past few days. She has hit her wall & decided she's not going to listen. They all go through this stubborn phase & it's just one of those things you have to push through. Diamond decided she was going to have a full out screaming tantrum, as though asking her to walk on a leash was literally torture. She made quite the scene today! After a long tantrum, we were able to end on a positive note & she spent the next hour or more on place processing her unexpected lesson today & enjoying her bone while surrounded by all sorts of goodies that she likes to steal! Here are a few pictures from our lessons!

Gus-gus & His Girls....

Gus is a 1 year old Italian Spinone that is here for the Advanced Obedience & behavior modification for a serious aggression towards guarding items he so chooses to steal & make his own. He has been here a little of a week & is making tremendous progress!! He is extremely social with the gang now after a few days of being a bit intimidated. He has completed his Basic with flying colors; ie: heel with auto-sit, sit & down stays, come (on leash) with an auto sit, no, his release command, let's go, & we are starting his "place" command today! I have also done some sessions with Gus & his guarding. All the sessions have made great progress but we still have a bit more work to do. He is great is a "set up" scenario but I think in an everyday situation he still may want to buck up a bit, so MORE WORK TO DO!! :o)

Gus has also made 2 great friends while he has been here, which oddly enough are 2 Spinones that come from the same breeder as Gus!!! What a small world.....could they be siblings?!?!

Maddie - aka Cowboy's Girlfriend

Miss Maddie is making herself very much at home & has even moved in on my man :o) She has taken to snuggling with him any chance she gets!! From a training perspective Maddie is an A+ girl!! She is spot on with her obedience, on & off the leash. Now we'll just perfect her master skills with adding hard distraction in the mix & see how she handles the pressure of choosing between fun, food, & chaos over being a well mannered lady.....haha. Sounds like no contest when I put it that way ;o) Her potty training is coming along; no accidents to report. She is inconsistently ringing the potty bells but ringing them non-the-less. She has certainly blossomed over the last few weeks & I can't wait to see her transformation of confidence & freedom over the next few. Stay tuned!!!

This is Stella! She is a super sweet, scared girl that is here to work on her social skills, learn Intermediate Obedience skills & learn to be a more confident, well adjusted girl. She has been here almost a week now & is slowly starting to get the swing of things. I am going much slower with her than a normal program because she is a little chicken girl about everything & she will learn better if I let her relax a bit first before pushing into more new, scary things. So far she has learned her manners on the leash; no pulling & respecting the space she has on the leash, heel with an auto-sit, her sit-stays & down-stays. The rest of her time here will consist of adding a few more commands and perfecting the ones she already knows, continue her socializing the the dogs and building her confidence!! A Diamond in the Ruff....

Meet Diamond!! She is spunky, vocal, lively Labrador Retriever puppy that is here for my Advanced Obedience training. Her first few days here I have been letting her get acclimated to our routine & just get used to the other dogs. It was a bit of a shocker for her & she was a bit overwhelmed. Well not anymore. She's a wild woman at playtimes and her training has officially started. It's going to be a slow process with her not because she's not smart but because she wants to protest most everything. She has her own agenda & if my plan doesn't fit into that she likes to verbally protest & have what I call her tantrums :o) But she sure is a sweet girl. She is an absolutely love & is learning how to great people with a little.....well, a lot less gusto. Here are some pictures of Diamond's stay so far. More to come on her training as it unfolds.

Maddie is doing very well!! She hasn't quite caught onto the potty bells but she hasn't had any accidents in the house thus far! :o) She isn't pottying in her crate and she goes outside all by herself & actually has to be called in the house. She loves playing with the other dogs and is doing excellent with her obedience with mild distractions. She isn't jumping up on new people that she's met. The next few weeks I'll be working on getting her off leash around heavy distractions, continue the potty training!

Banjo is slowly but surely coming along. He's such a big goof & really doesn't mean any harm; he just doesn't realize he's 80lbs of pure puppy. He knows all his basics - no jumping on people, heel with auto sit, sit & down stays, & we're teaching him the place command because his family needs it! :o) This past week I have introduced much harder commands, I'm taking him out to stores (Petsmart/co, home depot) for added people distractions and we've started going to parks so he can learn how to be well mannered around kids. It has been a bit harder to find small kids with it being so hot outside but we're working on it. He's going to stay a bit longer so we can get him just where he needs to be! Miss Yuma is doing soo well. She is socializing fantastic but that's no shocker. She is doing excellent with her obedience now. After a few days of being a quite little lady she has bloomed. She is beaming with confidence (except during storms...but we'll get to that in a minute) and so happy to please when you ask her to do something. She is now heeling on a loose leash at my left side & sits nicely when we stop, she is doing her sit & down stays with distractions, although she's still mastering the door bell :o) She is greeting people nicely without jumping up and we've started working on her place command. She is getting better with the storms & we have had plenty of them to work on her reaction to them. In the beginning she would drag you under the closest thing to get away from them. Now she will hold her commands such as heeling or staying in a sit or down command but is still trembling. She pants very nervously but is slowly learning to deal with the uncomfortable feeling/sounds of the storms. The obedience acts as a distraction to her wanting to get away & hide. She's coming around and certainly making friends in the process. More to come on Yuma as the week unfold :o)

Meet Maddie!

This is Maddie! She is a too cute for words Rat Terrier that is here for Intermediate Obedience as well as socialization & potty training!!! She has been here since Aug 5 and is already making great progress! I gave her a few days to get acclimated with the dogs and start to learn our routine. She has learned to not jump up to say hello, no pulling on the leash, we working on getting her to ring the bells to go outside, and suprisingly she hasn't pottied in her crate at all! (That was an ongoing problem at all). She's definitely getting more confident to go out in the yard to potty by herself! Now we start her obedience along with working on her constant desire for looking for people food when she's in the house. Maddie is also making great friends & loving playtime. She is sucha sweet girl & I'm sure I'll have more great updates as her training continues!

Training Newbees!

After a long vacation it is very fitting to have a full schedule right when you get back. This past week has been very eventful with my new trainees & their stories......

~~Meet Trey~~

Trey is a rescued Springer Spaniel. He is an absolute love & if his family wouldn't miss him, I would just keep him for myself :o) He is going through my Basic Obedience Program and working on some behavioral problems. He can get a bit obsessive with chasing shadows, light catches..... fast moving objects in general, I'm observing. He has been with me for almost 1 week now & his progress report is excellent!!! He is such a pleaser, very smart, and moving right along with his training. He has finished his obedience commands - heel with an automatic sit, sit & down (stays), come, & his release commands. He's *very* good with his "no" command and isn't inclined to push to see if you're being serious or not :o) His distractions are getting harder but he's taking them like a champ. He held his down stay today on our PetSmart run while I made dog tags, shopped for food, checked out & talked to the cashier. He was a bit nervous about the cart but I used his obedience to work him right through the problem. When I notice he notices the lights or shadows, I immediately correct him & it doesn't go past that. He really is an excellent boy & I'll be excited for his family to see him next week!!

~~MEET BANJO~~

Banjo is an 8 month old Golden Retriever pup that is hardly pup sized. He is hugemongous!! He is also with me for the Basic Obedience Program and some behavior modification. Banjo is typical Golden Retriever puppy, through & through. He just needs a good foundation of obedience and the rest will fall in place. He absolutely need consistency because he's so happy go lucky about life. He'll push & push in the goofiest, "I'm so cute" kind of way that it's hard to be firm with that face :o) He is doing very well but very easily stimulated by anything that's around so we're taking things slowly with him. More picture updates & more on Banjo's progress soon!!

~~MEET YUMA~~

This is Yuma! She is a rescue pup as well. She is too sweet for words & will be completing my Intermediate Obedience over the next few weeks. She also has some fear of storms we need to start to address. Over the last few days, I've just let her get acclimated with her new friends, the new rules & learning how to walk next to me instead of taking me places :o) She has to do all the work herself now on a loose leash & she likes to keep a little tension on the leash just so she knows she's in charge.....not much longer though ;o) She's making good progress & I'll have more great updates on her over the next few days!

My little wiggle butt Gus-gus is making excellent progress. He has now finished all his basic obedience commands - heel with an automatic sit, sit & downs from the side and at a distance as well as sit & down - stays, come with an automatic sit, the place command & his release command. He has a very good understanding of "no" and we have started the off leash part of his work. He does excellent around all distractions now & almost seems to do better with an audience, funny enough. His favorite part of the day is PLAYTIME, of course, and he has no issues with getting down & dirty (literally). He's been very enjoyable to work with & even more enjoyable to snuggle with. Shep is coming along on her in her Service Dog training. We're still working on getting her used to being in "work mode" and exposing her to as much as possible. Big Jump Forward & Tiny Steps Back.....

Sophie & Lola are both doing very well. They each have their GREAT days where we make huge strides forward and the next day we take a few steps back. It's all part of the process where the bulb just isn't burning bright all the way. When the light does come on, though, they get it & do excellent from that point forward. They both teeter back and forth on understanding & still choosing to ignore about 5% of the time. Lola got most of her stubbornness out of the way in the beginning & is not making great progress, where as Sophie was very complaint in the beginning & is now starting to the the brakes on & question things. This next week we'll work on Lola's attention to hold her commands while off the leash & work more on Sophie's nerves around distractions, especially off the leash now. I'll hopefully have a video update on the girls this weekend as well as more pictures~!~!

My little Juice box is doing very well! She has accomplished heel with an auto-sit, her sit & down stays from the & at a distance, come on the leash and she'll start learning to come when off the leash starting next week. She came to me with separation anxiety in the crate, although I have not experienced anything of the sort. She is eating awesome; and is now finishing 4-5 cups per day depending on our activity level. She is doing very well and much better about giving me her full attention. Her barking is now to a minimum and she quits immediately when told to do so. Her socialization with strangers is getting much better & she's more accepting of meeting new people. She doesn't know a stranger when it comes to the dogs though ;o) She has a lot of work yet to complete & only about 10 days to get in all done. It's time to buckle down & focus. I'll have more updates on this sweet girl soon!!

This is Oliver. Oliver is here to work on his social skills with dogs & people as well as the Basic Obedience. He has some fear aggression issues & in need of a good foundation of listening :o) Oliver is coming along nicely over this past week. This next week I will push him more in meeting new people & he'll start doing his obedience on our daily outtings!! More to come on Oliver!

Bauer had his go home lesson on Tuesday & did fan-tab-ulous!! That also happen to be the night we had a huge storm & I got stuck hanging out with Bauer & his family while the lightning blew up the neighbors tree and hit too close for comfort to their house. Even through the shaking house & all the stormy chaos, Bauer stayed on his place & showed off his new skills!

Little Tobie is doing very well!! He has successfully finished up his Basic Obedience & is ready to go home tomorrow and show off his new skills to his momma. He definitely needs consistency & constant reinforcement because it's so much easier to be bad :o) I hope to see Tobie for some more advanced work so his family can enjoy him even more!!

This is Caesar. Caesar comes with almost any problem you can muster up in your head, in the realm of dog problems. This little guy is too smart for his own good. He will be with me for the next 3+ weeks for the Advanced Obedience program. Over the last 2 days we working on his heel with an auto-sit & his sit stays. He is definitely challenging all aspects of the training but we're getting there!

These two ladies are coming right along in these last 10 days of training. Lola definitely turned out to be way more stubborn than anticipated but she's definitely turning a new leaf & actually wanting to please more! They both have completed their Basic Obedience and we've started on the off leash part of the training & have increased distractions. Sophie has a great fear of most objects which has been a huge obstacle to work through. Each day she gets better but it is definitely something that needs to be addressed because it could cause her danger should she decide to just bolt & run, like she feels like she needs to do. I'm teaching her things aren't going to kill her & she needs to slow down & look to me for direction. We're getting there.

Meet Gus~
Gus is a 5 month old, beautiful Boxer puppy all the way from Montgomery, AL. Gus will be with me for a month to complete the Advanced Obedience course. He arrive this past Monday & so far he is doing exceptionally well. He's definitely a people pleaser! It took him a few days to get warmed up to the other dogs but you can't hold him back now from playtime. He can hold his own & out wrestle any of the bigger dogs :o) He has tons of personality but not in an "over-doing it" kind of way. This past week he has completed his heel with the auto-sit, his sit & down stays, come with the auto-sit (on the leash of course) and we're starting place today. I have been able to throw pretty tough distractions at him already! He has no problems focusing & keeping his attention on me. Next week we'll start his off leash work & increase attention to holding commands longer and we'll start out on leash outtings! Stay tuned for more on little Gus!

It's Summer Time & The Live'n Is Dog Easy....

School is out & it seems as though everyone is on vacation right now & everyone wants their dog trained right NOW. I have a handful of new trainees as well as the usual campers!!

LOLA & SOPHIE:

These two pretty ladies are with me for 2 & 3 weeks for some work on the Basics for Lola & Sophie is going through with the Advanced work!! They both are super sweet but definitely typical Beagle..... All nose & complete mind of their own :o) They have both had a great time getting to know the gang! Over the last few days I have covered their manners on the leash, how to greet people, no getting on the furniture, sit-stays, heel with auto sit, & the favorite, "no". Sophie is definitely the more willing the please of the two of them but I think they'll both be great!! More to come on these pretty girls later on!!

TOBIE: This little munchkin is Tobie. He is about a year old & full of spunk & energy. He is going through my Basic Obedience but staying a little longer than the usual time given his lack of attention aka his A.D.D. :o) He is doing very well & very willing to please but is VEEERRRY distracted by most everything....leaves, grass, the wind..... life. Over the next few days I'll be working him with the commands he's learned over this past days around the everyday distractions of life. He loves riding in the car & going to the barn to *see* the horses..... he doesn't care to get close to them. More updates on little man as his training progresses.

Bauer is coming along great. We're tying up the lose ends & getting ready for his go home on Tuesday. He's doing excellent off leash around every distraction I can throw at him. This weekend we'll master the off leash at the park & then he's good to go!!

JUICE!

Juice is a full of life little boxer girl that thinks she can take on the world. She will be with me working on her separation anxiety, learning her basics, learning to not bark excessively at people, & working on her manners & social skills. She has loved her first day of meeting the gang & riding in the car. She has a long road ahead of her so more pictures & updates to come on Miss Juice!!

Shepherd is still in progress for her service dog work & I'll have pictures & more updates on her to come this weekend so stay tuned!!

The Happenings Around These Parts!

Hello Everyone! It's been a while for sure. There has been a lot going on around here which has kept me pretty tied up & not so much time for blogging. Now that school is out it's been a full house every week with our regular boarding family! I've had a group of new trainees in & out with some basic obedience & Shepherd is still in training as a Service Dog for her little boy. Here's some pictures to sum up the happenings around here for the last 5-6 weeks!

Bauer is an 8 month old Boxer pup. He is quite the maniac and has a mind of his own. He is the most exuberant boy yet. He is 2 weeks into his training today and has made quite a change over the last few weeks. He is going through my Advanced Obedience program. Now that he has a good foundation & an understanding of what I am asking of him, he has been excellent. The first few days were touch & go & he definitely is making me work for this one :o) He is now heeling nicely at my left side & sitting when we stop, doing his sit & down stays, place, come with the auto-sit and with the distraction of the other dogs, cats & people. He's done excellent on his outings to PetSmart/Co, the park & other stores. This coming week we start his remote collar work and I'm sure he'll be even that much better. I'll keep you posted on his progress over his last week of training!!

I know it's been a while since I've had a training update. I have a favor to ask of my clients & anyone that follows my blog that might refer people to me. We're Spring Break'n It

It's that time of year again where chaos meets warm weather :o) It's a full house around here with my wonderful boarding clients & my new trainees!!! I have many updates over the last week. Mr. Luke has rejoined his family and was doing excellent!! Charlie Brown also joined his family right before the start of Spring Break & he will be testing his new skills at the lake house. I hope to have a good report card at our follow up lesson :o) I've also been joined by 5 new trainees over the new few weeks -

~ Estelle & Emma ~

The Bobbsey twins are 5 month old Great Dane puppies. They are quite the duo. Emma is a very special girl; she deaf and almost completely blind. After spending the past week with her I have found she can see close to her & she can pick up on movement at a distance but the clarity isn't great. I am of course teaching her hand signals and doing remote work with her to keep her attention because of course you can't get her attention off the leash. They both are doing very well after a rough few days in the potty training department. We are on track and they should be good to go at the end of next week!

~ Roxy ~

Roxy is a 6month old Goldendoodle puppy that is here for some MAJOR socialization with other dogs and people. She has been a little sheltered

and hasn't had the proper amount of socialization with strange people & other animals and she has extreme fear aggression towards all these things. So course of action for Roxy is to have a good solid foundation of trust in me and a good solid foundation of obedience and she will be inundated with meeting new dogs, people & scary object for the next two weeks. Now that she has already shown fear aggression, the importance of her owners continuing to take her out & expose her to new things is amplified by 10x's. Puppy Preschool is a great way to learn to set your new puppy up for success & curb behavior problems!! :o) Stay tuned for Roxy's progress!

~ River ~

River is a 9 month old Springer Spaniel and too cute for words. He's been dubbed a bit of a barker & a little unruly at home so he's with me for some Intermediate Obedience. He's been here for 5 days now & is breezing through his commands with the greatest of ease so I have increase the distraction level substantially :o) The next two weeks with River are going to be great & I'm happy to challenge the little guy and learn from him as well! So stay tuned for his progress report.

~ Oliver ~

Oliver is a 1 1/2 year old Mini Goldendoodle that's learning the Basics along with a few extras that his owners would like "fixed". Oliver is a chewer of all things and a big time counter surfer. He's a very smart guy and a bit on the mischievous side. He too has been here for about 5 days and is doing well but definitely has a mind of his own :o) Aiming to please isn't on his resume` so I'm trying to make it more fun for him. He's LOVING all the other dogs & making tons of new friends. More updates to come on Mr. Oliver.

Field Trip Day!!

Learning how to obey commands and learning how to obey commands with the excitement of a new place, new distractions and new people are two VERY different things. As part of the training we MUST have field trip days where the trainees & I venture out to fun places like the park, Home Depot, Petsmart/Co, etc to test the waters & make sure that they understand that the new *rules* don't just apply to Ms. Ashleigh's house...... it's everywhere. Teaching the dogs to obey away from home is an ongoing process & should continue throughout the life of your dog. Just like with people, if you don't use your skills they get rusty. So this field trip consisted of a run through Petsmart for some usuals & then a trip through the garden center at Home Depot. The employees LOOOVE when I bring the dogs by and they always love to see how each dog varies and tries to challenge me. Luke's biggest challenge is always accepting the fact that not everyone wants to or will be able to say hello to him (the perks of being a Golden Retriever). And Chipster's biggest challenge so far paying attention to his commands with "life" going on around him. Both pups did excellent!!

It always gets crazy this time of year..... the pups get extra frisky as well. How about updates on how everyone is doing--- (I apologize ahead of time for not having many pictures. I left my camera at the barn & I didn't find it until Saturday evening.)

LUKE:
Luke is doing very well. He is camping out a little longer than his scheduled 3 weeks because he's having a little difficulty not being tempted off the leash by wonderful distractions like people, food, dogs, toys.... well, you name it, he gets excited about it! He isn't trying to steal anything anymore and he's not falling for me leaving food at ground level for him to snag either :o) He should be ready to go home this Friday & I'm very excited for his family to see the new & improved, super sweet, spectacular LUKE!!!

CHARLIE:
Charlie brown is a new camper!! He is here for Basic Obedience & fixing a few bad habits he has picked up in his short 4 months of living :o) He is a Goldendoodle puppy and as always beyond sweet, super willing to please & a little excitable. He is doing very well in a controlled environment and not many distractions. He's heeling nicely on the leash & stopping when we sit. He can hold his sit & down stays for a good length of time he comes & sits at my feet when called and each day the distractions get harder & harder. This is where we're still working on things. He also will be ready to go home on Friday and his mom & dad are definitely going to have their hands full with this little guy. :o) More updates on Charlie brown to come!

MASON:
Mason has had quite the change of events happen in his life. I contacted a client that also happens to be a foster mom for the rescue organization that Mason is from. I spoke with her about her family becoming Mason foster family until he's adopted. She offers a good stable, calm environment & can continue the training that he has learned given that she's put her two boxers through the Advanced Obedience. Well Lauren is also leaving to go to the school in Ohio that I graduated from to become a dog trainer & she is going to be taking Mason as her project dog!! This is awesome for him. He'll get tons of work, socialization and hopefully even adopted!! I know she's not going to want to find him a home once she meets him. He's one in a million and I wish I could make him part of my gang :o) I am super excited for Mason & I hope to have good news to report this summer on how well he's doing!

CHIP:
Chipster is a Pitt-mix that is here for some Basic Obedience & socialization from his wonderful foster family in Lilburn. We don't know his exact age but he's definitely under 1 year old and full of personality. He was rescued by his foster momma next to a dumpster. He's been treated like a king, pampered & fed well and now he's with me learning his social skills with other dogs & cats so that he will make someone a very good companion! Pictures to come on Chip & please pass along the word to anyone would like to offer Chip a structured, loving, forever home!

Denali's Big News!!!!

I received FABULOUS news today from Denali's owner. He's been back home 1 week now after his 3 months in training as Hudson's Service Canine/Seizure detector and he detected Hudson's seizure while Hudson was taking his nap!!! Excellent news & I'm glad to see this pair is turning out to make an incredible team!!

Luke & His 1 Week Progress Report

This is Luke! He is an almost 2 year old Golden Retriever. He is with me for the Advanced Obedience. He also has taken a liking to eating anything & everything he can get his mouth on including but not limited to, pillows & cushions, pool lights, furniture, cords. Some of his favorite activities include counter surfing, jumping on people to say hello & just being over exuberant in general. He is a super sweet boy that is very willing to please but lacking in direction & structure. He has finished 1 week of his training and is now walking nicely on the leash at my left side & sitting when we stop, holding his sit & down stays, come with an automatic sit & place! We have also worked on his excessive eating of things & stealing of anything he can find. Here are some pictures of what I like to call "Attack of the bread & cheese"........

Mason Needs A Home

This is Mason. He is a 1-2 year old Boxer that is available for adoption through Rockin P Rescue group. He is with me for the next few weeks working on his socialization with other dogs & people. He is a nervous guy but SUPER sweet. He would be great in a home that didn't have small kids & a family that had plenty of time to make Mason a forever part of the family. He is doing very well his first week here. He is still very nervous but definitely coming around. He has a great desire to please and picks up on things very quickly. Jake's Last Day :o)

It is always bitter-sweet when a camper finishes up with training. Today is Jake's last day. He will be heading off tomorrow morning to meet back up with his family & show off his new manners & skills!! Jake is walking nicely at my left side for walks & sitting when we stop, he is obeying all the basic commands on a leash such as sit-stays, down-stays, & we did a little extra with him and added the place command. He is no longer counter surfing for goodies & no long jumping up for attention. He has new ways of greeting people that are much more inviting. Jake is still very fresh into his training & it's up to his mom and dad to take charge & keep up the consistency. The first week home is always very trying & so crucial for the mom's and dads. More updates on Jake as the weeks progress after he returns home!!
