Carmen

This sweet, funny faced girl is Carmen. She is a 2 year old Boxer that is here to learn how to be a lady with other dogs as well as my Intermediate Obedience Package. She has been here a few days and is settling in great. She was a little unsure of her new friends at first but with a little time & encouragement she is starting to come around. I'll have more pictures and more of a progress report as her visit unfolds!

This beautiful girl is 4 month old, Viszla, Sienna. She has been here for my Advanced Obedience program. She is about 2 weeks into her training. She has learned how to heel nicely at my left side with no pulling. When we stop, where most dogs would learn to sit, she is learning to stand for her future in the show ring. She isn't actually learning the sit command at all. She knows her down-stay command, although it is the one she struggles the most with. She still needs much reinforcement in that command even with minimal distractions. She is doing excellent at her place command. She is maintaining her place command with little to no correction and for extended periods of time. She has started her transition to the off leash work in some areas but I would like to see her a little more solid on all the basics before I progress more in that area with her. She has made tons of friends & is quite the social butterfly. She sort of holds the card as the annoying little sister..... everyone else is pooped and ready to rest & she's still bugging them to play :o) The rest of her time here will be spent progressing with her off leash work, refining all her commands & adding more distractions!!! Long time no see everyone! After a long hiatus of blogging I've had many requests to please start blogging about the dogs I work with & the things going on with Georgia K9 Academy! So here we are again. I am happy to announce I am now in a new, bigger location offering not just boarding to my training clients but in home boarding (still) to anyone! So if your family or friends have furry friends that need a loving place to stay while their family is away, please pass along my information :o) I am also happy to announce that Georgia K9 Academy has started a Therapy Dog group. This is for people that would like to join in a little community service by taking their furry pal to visit people in nursing homes, children's hospitals, school events, etc. Please email me if you'd like more information on joining the Georgia K9 Academy Therapy Dogs! BOARDING

Georgia K9 Academy is located on 4.5 in Loganville, GA. We are not a traditional "kennel" in the sense that your dog comes to stay and is like one of our dogs. Our property is fully fenced, we offer a play yard for playtimes, spacious runs or crate for bed time, comfy cots, lots of love & discipline and of course all the friends a pup could ever need. Boarding is *$25/night/dog. I ask that you please supply your dog's food in a non returnable bag or container. Because we offer comfy beds, bowls, toys & leashes you don't have to worry about sending your own! Training Tips

Obedience can be boring & monotonous but it is definitely a necessity to having a happy companion. Mix it up & make it fun for you & your dog. These tips help to keep yours & your dog's skill sharp!

- Change up your location of where you work with your dog. Every new place you go will bode a new challenge for you & your dog. Your dog doesn't know the training rules apply there. The excitement of new distraction, new smells can make for a crazed pup! Take a few minutes & run through your commands, reminding your dog that he/she has to be well behaved at this new fun place as well!

- Sit on the couch or in a chair when you're giving commands. Standing is a very authoritative position & your dog is more inclined to listen when you are standing. Run through all your commands in this new relaxed position. Expect your dog will mess up in the beginning; it's something new. Just be ready to correct the problem & show your dog what you want! He/she should listen just the same.

Making your obedience fun for you & your dog is the key. Get creative & don’t forget, USE IT OR LOSE IT!!
