IT'S A BOY!!!

Finally..... HE's HERE!!! My mare, Britches, finally had her foal!!! His name is Levi. He is a beautiful bay Thoroughbred with a star & stripe on his face. He is extremely tall even for this breed of horse. He was born on June 17th at 7 am. I checked her the evening before & she was producing milk so I expected it would be that evening or early the next morning. I opted to not stay out all night because I really think they are more comfortable having them alone without the stress of anyone there. So, Wednesday morning we got to the barn about 7:15-20 & he was just starting to stand up. He was still gooey & seemed to be quite well. He had not nursed or anything at this point. I was beside myself with excitement. Britches was very calm & let us put our hands all over him so he would know our smell. We touched his face, ears, legs, feet hiney.... etc to get him acquainted with us. We will continue doing the handling with him so he is used to being messed with my people but for the most part we're going to just let him bond with momma. He's amazing & starting to show personality. I can't wait to see how he blossoms over the next few weeks. Enjoy the pictures!!

Training Tips

Obedience can be boring & monotonous but it is definitely a necessity to having a happy companion. Mix it up & make it fun for you & your dog. These tips help to keep yours & your dog's skill sharp!

- Change up your location of where you work with your dog. Every new place you go will bode a new challenge for you & your dog. Your dog doesn't know the training rules apply there. The excitement of new distraction, new smells can make for a crazed pup! Take a few minutes & run through your commands, reminding your dog that he/she has to be well behaved at this new fun place as well!

- Sit on the couch or in a chair when you're giving commands. Standing is a very authoritative position & your dog is more inclined to listen when you are standing. Run through all your commands in this new relaxed position. Expect your dog will mess up in the beginning; it's something new. Just be ready to correct the problem & show your dog what you want! He/she should listen just the same.

Making your obedience fun for you & your dog is the key. Get creative & don’t forget, USE IT OR LOSE IT!!

Highly Skilled, Highly Recommended!! Let me start out by saying that this was my first experience with a professional trainer. (Laila)My boxer is the first puppy that I ever owned. I told Ashleigh that I wanted a very well behaved dog due to the fact that I have had problems with other dogs that I have owned in the past. Ashleigh described her training options to me and I decided to go for the full training option which required that Ashleigh take Laila for three weeks to teach her all the basics and off leash commands. I can not say enough how impressed I am with Ashleigh's dedication to her craft. Ashleigh provides follow up visits with me if I feel Laila needs a refresher. Laila with Ashleigh's help has become the ultimate best friend in my opinion. I would recommend Ashleigh's services to anyone looking for the ultimate in obedience training. --John Pitera

Ashleigh is the best dog trainer I could have ever imagined. She taught my Boxer to do everything I could have ever wanted, and helped her to become confident and controlled. Ashleigh puts so much heart into her work and takes it very seriously. She is never finished--she continues to help us whenever we need her. She is fabulous at what she does and anyone searching for a talented, dedicated trainer would be wise to contact Ashleigh with Georgia K9 Academy. Ashleigh can assist you with any problems you are having with your dog and has given us complete control over our dog both on and off leash. We can't wait to send our newest puppy to her in a couple weeks! --Lauren Bentley

Ashleigh has been such a blessing to my dogs and me. Her patience and hard work with my German Shepherd, Gus, have truly made a difference in his behavior, and her help with my Daschund mix, Jack, have really helped as well. She has much more patience then I could ever have, which is exactly what I needed. She has been great with follow-ups and email/phone replies, and I can definitely tell that she cares about my dogs. She was very honest upfront with her training style and what my dog was going to be experiencing while being at her house. She also has a blog that she updates about her trainees, which is great for owners because they can check in on how their dogs are doing and see pictures and such. My dogs love seeing her, which is such a comfort to me knowing they are in good hands when they are with her. I highly recommend Ashleigh for anyone who loves their dogs and wants to have the best relationship with them that they possibly can. Her training has made all the difference in the world! --Abigail Wintemute
